18 Wheeler Accident
18 Wheeler Accident. You need someone who is experienced in handling these types of cases.
If possible, we want to start working on a truck wreck case immediately after the wreck to prevent the trucking company from destroying evidence.
It is important to obtain evidence as soon as possible. Such things as the black box, GPS data, driver’s logs, dashcam video, cell phone records, evidence left on the pavement and even the tractor and trailers braking system. An accident reconstruction expert needs to document the scene to secure measurements, photographs, and evidence.
- 450K Of the approximately 450,000 police-reported crashes involving large trucks in 2017, 344,000 resulted in injury crashes.*
- 4,889 In 2017, 4,889 large trucks and buses were involved in fatal crashes, a 9-percent increase from 2016.*

Trucking companies will destroy evidence if they think the evidence will hurt their case.

Many truck wrecks occur due to trucking companies hiring unqualified drivers, that they fail to supervise and properly train.
We have handled cases where the following has occurred:
- Companies fail to run criminal and driving background checks on its truck drivers (many truck drivers have a criminal background record and have been involved in wrecks).
- Companies hire inexperienced drivers and fail to adequately train them (many truck drivers are new and in training, have very little experience, and have not been trained properly by the company).
- Companies did not supervise them properly and the drivers were fatigued and/or sleep deprived due to over work and over scheduling, which resulted in non-alert driving.
- Companies allowed their drivers to drive more than the number of hours allowed by the Federal Department of Transportation (it is common in the trucking industry for drivers to illegally drive over the allowable hours and then falsify their logbooks, and record lower driving times than actually driven. A complete check of the logbook and drop off times needs to be analyzed).
- Companies allow their trucks to be overloaded or have unsecured loads (trucks with too much weight on them or loads that tend to shift can make maneuvering a truck impossible).
- Companies fail to maintain their trucks (to increase profit, many trucking companies intentionally skip required truck maintenance).
- Companies allow drivers to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol (you would be unpleasantly surprised at how many truck drivers drive with alcohol and/or drugs in their system).
- Companies allow their drivers to drive distracted, by using a hand held device to text, look at things like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, or watch movies. This is not only dangerous, but also a violation of Federal Law.
